We provide a range of antimalarial medications suitable for different destinations and individual needs. Our pharmacists will help you choose the most appropriate option based on your travel plans.

Antimalarial tablets are most effective when combined with measures to prevent mosquito bites:

Wear long-sleeved clothing and long pants, especially after sunset
Sleep in air-conditioned rooms or use bed nets treated with insecticide
Be especially vigilant from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active

Ideally, you should schedule a travel health consultation 6-8 weeks before your trip. This allows enough time for vaccines to become effective and for any required vaccination courses to be completed. However, even if you're traveling sooner, it's still worth coming in for advice as many vaccines can provide protection in shorter timeframes.
Some travel vaccinations are available free on the NHS, while others are only available privately. Vaccines that are typically free include: diphtheria, polio and tetanus boosters, typhoid, and hepatitis A. All other vaccines need to be paid for, our pharmacist can advice on cost during your consultation.
Some vaccines can be safely administered during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, while others may need to be avoided. It's important to inform our pharmacists if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding so they can provide appropriate advice. In many cases, the risk of disease may outweigh any theoretical risk from vaccination.
The choice of antimalarial medication depends on several factors including: your destination(s), length of stay, medical history, current medications, and personal preferences. Our pharmacists will assess these factors during your consultation and recommend the most appropriate option for you.
Most antimalarial medications require a prescription, which our pharmacists can provide following a consultation. Some antimalarials are available over the counter, but these may not be suitable for all destinations due to resistance patterns.
If you experience any concerning side effects from your travel medications, contact us immediately for advice. For serious reactions, seek immediate medical attention. It's important to start antimalarials before travel partly to ensure you can tolerate them - if you experience problems, alternative options may be available.
